The Start-Up Capital of Canada
Fredericton is the capital of the province of New Brunswick. A small (but mighty) city of 60,000, Fredericton is known for its strong innovation district which comprises 60+ research & development organizations found within a two kilometre radius.
In 2016, Fredericton was recognized by KPMG as the most cost competitive business location in the country and was awarded the title of Start-Up Capital of Canada by Start-Up Canada. Sectors of regional importance include ICT, biotechnology, engineering, and natural resources. The city also boasts a thriving arts community with an annual jazz and blues festival and a college dedicated to craft and design.
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is a publicly-funded comprehensive institution offering undergraduate through PhD programs. It was recently named Canada’s Most Entrepreneurial University by Start-Up Canada. Our Summer Institute partner organization within UNB, the J Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, is housed within the Faculty of Engineering. Since 2010, the Centre has launched 75+ start-up companies.
